Why is Life Expectancy in the USA So Low Compared to Other Countries?

i was looking at the world health org.

report and it shows the us ranks 37th in the world (tied with albania) for combined male/female life expectancy.

the top 5 were japan, switzerland, singapore, israel and spain, all around 83 years.

Diet and lifestyle is what usually determines a higher life expectancy from my understanding.

More veggies, less meat, less sugar, more exercise.

It's proven that the less you eat, the longer and healthier your life expectancy will be.

No Need To Preach In Every Country Anymore

speaking to a pimo from my hometown yesterday.

he told me that in the watchtower study (10 nov 2019) regarding “the great tribulation” the elder on the platform said that there’s no need for jws to preach in every country in order to fulfil the prophecy, and therefore the org has already fulfilled that prophecy.

and that there’s nothing else left to wait for now but for “the great tribulation” to come.. gasps of delight came from the audience.. has anyone else heard this?

Heres some rough mathematics.

According to the 2018 Grand Total report on JW Org;

2.1 billion hours per year are spent preaching. An average of about 20 hrs per month per publisher. (sounds a bit padded to me).

It requires 7746 hours of preaching per year to create one baptism.

The population of the world increases by about 80 million people per year.

The amount of preaching needed to convert just the population growth each year would be about 59.6 billion hours. About 30 times the current amount.

We know 80 million people per year are never going to become JW's, so thats 80 million people per year that have to die needlessly at armageddon for every year that 'the end' is delayed.

Memorial date

can someone please help me with this, if you’ve looked into it before?.

i read somewhere that the witnesses didn’t celebrate the memorial on nisan 14 according to the jewish calendar.

i did a quick google check - seems next years memorial is on tuesday (nisan 13) rather than the wednesday, nisan 14 according to the jewish calendar.

I always understood it was 14 days from the first new moon after the spring equinox.

excellent observation from zizek about communist regimes: they didn’t care if people accepted the ideology or took it seriously, so long as people acted as if the ideology was true, that was the important thing.

in fact the regimes were deeply suspicious people who took the ideology too seriously.

people who took the ideology seriously were dangerous because they were prone to noticing the inconsistencies and flaws in the system.

Basically, JW's claim to have deep-seated, personal convictions, but in reality it just isn't true.

Their deep-seated, personal convictions are whatever the latest Watchtower tells them to have.

Really interesting way to look at it SBF.

I posted about the zizek trilemma a month or 2 ago because it resonated so well with me as to the behaviour of high control groups, including JW's.

Intelligence and honesty are not as important as loyalty, in fact, those qualities are dangerous to the organisation. Loyalty above all - even truth.

What was your favorite video game?

i've never been that big on video/computer games but i used to have a ps2 and my absolute fav game was star wars battlefront ii, released by pandemic in 2005.. you could choose to play as three different classes of soldier and fight for the rebels, the imperials, the republic or the battle droids.

as you played and gained points by killing the enemy, you could unlock a fourth and fifth class of soldier.

you could also play as a hero or villain - such as darth vader, luke skywalker, princess leia, etc.. there was something absolutely awesome playing as darth vader and cutting down or force-choking rebel soldiers on the tantive iv.. .

Any kids of the 80's , like me, will remember their childhoods with the release of the very first home consoles, the first hand-held games, arcade games, pinballs, Nintendo's, Sega's, Playstations, then, the rise of home computing, the world wide web, PC games and MMORPG's.

To anyone not into video games, it may interest you to know that there are websites, like Twitch, that allow players to stream the games as they are playing, to anyone who wants to log in and watch them. So, if you have kids, and they aren't playing video games, there is a good chance they and their friends are watching someone play. The best players are known worldwide, have fans numbering in the hundred thousands, or millions, and make ridiculous sums of money.

Then there are E-sports, where professional video game players compete in packed arenas for millions of dollars in prize money, all streamed to a worldwide audience.

To answer your question, loveuni, hard to pick a favourite. Maybe Ark- survival evolved??

Scholar, you do realise that if 607 was right - which it isn't, you still cant arrive mathematically at 1914.

The years in the prophecy are 360 day years, clearly stated in the orgs publications.

You are using 365 day years to arrive at 1914, which is impossible.

I should know better than to jump back into this post but it is an interesting subject.

Scholars date the book of Daniel to just the first half of the second century bc, long after the events happened. The book is not included in the list of prophets in the Jewish canon, which was finalised around 200 bc, apparently because it hadn't been written by then.

PIMO Elder with a Dilemma

i haven’t been on here in awhile and this is my second user name because i was busted by my pimi wife on the first one.

i have been basically awake since 2013. i have a super dub wife that i love and don’t want to lose and my sick mom in the hall that is a true believer.

stupid religion has gotten between my wife and i (of course).

I have been having conversations with still in friends who also happen to be elders.

At first it was ok, they gave a pretence of giving me a listening ear but as my questions got too hard they started going into robotic Borg mode.

This period was the period when they would just link articles from JW org and expect it to magically answer all of my questions and concerns. As an elder, maybe you have dealt with people in your cong in a similar manner.

After going around in circles with my friends, it all comes down to whether you believe in the gb. It doesn't matter how logical and reasonable your questions are. The conversation will usually devolve to that critical point.

What I have learned is that once you have laid your cards on the table, that's it. They can treat you how they see fit, they can shun you, or run you down to others. You have given them power over you, to an extent.

It all depends on whether you plan to keep any of your current friends because if you are hoping things remain pretty much the same, it is probably better to just fade.

On the other hand, if you couldn't give a rats a$$, then go out in a blaze of glory. 😎

The struggle to reconcile a belief that your intelligence tells you is dishonest, while maintaining loyalty to the control group applies universally, including JW's.

Another term for it is cognitive dissonance, and its what you are experiencing now.

Luckily for you, Scholar, there are a lot of threads on this forum that can help. 👍
